| If you are charged with a minor violation, you are not required to be represented by legal counsel. However, you have the right to be represented by legal counsel if you so desire. If you are charged with an offense for which you could be sentenced to serve time in jail, you must be represented by legal counsel. If you are unable to afford an attorney, you have the right to ask for a court-appointed attorney. The judge will have you fill out a form to determine if you can afford an attorney. If he finds you cannot afford an attorney, the judge will appoint one for you. You will be required to reimburse the City for court-appointed attorney fees. |
